Product Description

Description Giovanni Gabrieli (c. 1554/1557 – 12 August 1612) was an Italian composer and organist. He was one of the most influential musicians of his time, and represents the culmination of the style of the Venetian School, at the time of the shift from Renaissance to Baroque idioms. This piece comes from his book of Sacrae Symphoniae of 1597, a collection of instrumental music for use at St. Marks Basilica where the multiple organ and choir lofts allowed the composer to use multiple instrumental groups to produce a variety of sounds and textures. Originally for brass instruments, this arrangement places the saxes in three groups of four with potential to explore various spatial arrangements of the players as in the original. The original rhythms have been halved to bring it more into line with modern notational practices, and all dynamics and articulation marks are editorial.
